Words cannot express the sorrow and sympathy felt for you, Norma: You were such a wonderful couple, always looking for new adventures. Doug had a wonderful happy life, I’m certain of that, and thanks to you for always being so cheerful. Do carry on with the help of your family and remember the good times…

We were so sorry to hear about Doug. We were with Micheline, Danielle and their families when Marilyn called. Micheline and Danielle remembered what a sweet guy Doug was, so patient, in teaching them to ski…we’re sure he was loved by many. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

We’ve missed having chats with him, as he came in on all those little errands for you, Norma…You will miss him so much. He was such a kind, gentle and admirable man. I’m glad you have a wonderful family to be with you and to help you now. We are thinking of you, Norma and wishing you well.

Doug has been an inspiration to both myself and my children since we met so many years ago. From the time we met we found a common bond in our hunting and fishing stories. I have always been fascinated by what Doug has done and achieved from his war stories to his fishing stories, never have I seen a man remember every detail of the adventures he has been on. He has forever touched the hearts of my family with his kindness from giving Andrew one of his hunting knives to giving Katie advice on a rifle that would suit her, to fixing everything on our ice shack just because he came down to fish once in a while. Doug will be dearly missed by his family, friends and the community; he has touched us all in some way or another . Our hearts and prayers go out to his family at this difficult time, but I’m sure of one thing Doug will be looking out for us all just as he always has.

My Grandfather, Norman Jensen, so looked forward to visits from Doug. Doug would take him to the experimental farm, the mall, the Gatineau Hills, anywhere they felt like going that day. My family will never forget the kindness Doug showed Norman while he lived in Ottawa, many hours from his New Denmark home. We are blessed to have known Doug Dixon. He was truly a kind and thoughtful man.

It is with heartfelt sadness that we hear of Doug’s death. Our most sincere sympathy to our dear friend Norma and Susie, Peter and families.Doug’s sincere, humble and honest personality has been an inspiration to us all.Doug always had time for others but never dwealt on himself. He never forgot a good deed that someone did for him.His wealth of experience in so many areas of life made him a most interesting communicator and yet he never boasted about his accomplishments.
He adored his wife, and admired and supported her many talents. He considered himself the luckiest man alive. Although he married later in life , he was truly a model family man. He adored Peter and Susie as well as his much loved and admired grandchildren.
We will always treasure our time spent and memories shared , our skiing and golf with a wonderful friend. We regret not being at the funeral but prayers and thoughts are with you all.
Much love

Doug will be remembered, as a “gentleman”, soft spoken, kind, thoughful and respectful, someone who was genuine and cared about people. He is “one-of-a-kind” and will be remembered as such. Happy to have known Doug, happy to have chatted with Doug, happy to have fond memories of Doug knowing he touched so many of us…sad to see he go, but always happy that I met him…..condolences to his family…

here’s the ‘old lady’ Dixon, re-tracing, re-reading the many true accolades of a life well lived, while well loved by so many, I’m answering one by one personally, helping me reflect on the ‘luckiest woman alive’ trading his thoughts of me, remembering how it will be easy to recall good days because they all were that with us as a ‘couple’ .. he’s left a legacy that he probably wouldn’t have thought possible..it’s strange in this day of double-dealing, deceit, and ignoring possibly one’s right in front of you, and turning away, that he should be the common-sense man with caring beyond words for one and all of God’s children….he’ll continue to be my ‘trains of thought’ and my own ‘daily bread….Norma
